OCTANe
Gary Augusta is President and CEO of OCTANe and
Executive Director of the OCTANe Foundation for Innovation. Gary has
over 15 years experience to his role, with experience in early stage
growth strategy, corporate venture, engineering, development,
consulting, and M&A at technology start-ups, for- and non-profit
corporations, and Fortune 500 companies. Gary worked as a corporate
officer of Fluor, a senior executive with a CRM technology, and a
Principal with A.T.Kearney. Gary is a member of the UC Irvine CEO
Roundtable, the Keck Graduate Institute Advisory Council, and the UC
Irvine ICS Membership Committee. He serves as a board member or
advisor to several start-up companies in the biomedical and
information technology industries, as well as at UCLA. Gary has a BS
in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Rhode Island and a
Masters of Science and Management (MSM) from Georgia Tech.
Philip Ginsburg
President & CEO
MedStar, Inc., a molecular testing startup
Philip Ginsburg M.D. is a clinical pathologist
with extensive and diverse experience in both the medical and
business sides of the diagnostics industry. He has more than
eighteen years of commercial medical laboratory experience, driving
revenues and maximizing profits. He was a principal owner of Lancet
Laboratories, a large national pathology laboratory corporation in
South Africa, prior to moving to the USA in 1997. Dr Ginsburg worked
as Medical Director at Quest Diagnostics laboratories and consulted
for companies in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry. Most
recently, as Senior Medical Director at Gen-Probe, Inc, a publicly
traded molecular diagnostics company, he provided clinical and
strategic leadership for the oncology diagnostics division. Dr
Ginsburg’s current entrepreneurial venture is the creation and
development of MedStar, Inc.
Dr. Ananth Natarajan

Infinite Biomedical Technologies, Inc.
Ananth Natarajan M.D. is the CEO of Infinite
Biomedical Technologies, Inc. Founded in 1997, at Johns Hopkins
University, IBT is a pioneer developer of medical devices. With
strong support from the National Institutes of Health, IBT's focus
to date has been in the fields of Neuro Critical Care, Cardio
Technology, and Women's Health. Dr. Natarajan received a BSE in
Biomedical Engineering and Electrical Engineering from Duke
University and an MSE in Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins
University. Subsequently, he received his MD from the University of
Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. He completed a unique 5-year
research-residency track structured to allow him to develop
interdisciplinary training between academics and industry focused on
the clinical applications of advanced technology.
Dr. Steve O'Connor
President & CEO
Nanostream
Dr. Steve O'Connor has extensive experience in
leading successful technology firms and in commercializing complex
life science products that merge chemistry, analytical
instrumentation and disposable devices. As President & CEO, he
founded Nanostream in 1999 and has guided all aspects of the
company’s growth. Dr. O’Connor invented Nanostream’s core
microfluidic technology to address previously unmet market needs in
drug development and assembled a multi-disciplinary team to develop
the core microfluidic technology platform from the ground up in less
than two years. He co-founded four technology companies in Southern
California, including Clinical Micro Sensors (CMS), a manufacturer
of DNA micro-arrays. As Chief Scientist at CMS, Dr. O’Connor helped
develop the company until it was acquired by Motorola for $300
million in 2000. He completed his PhD in Physical Chemistry at the
California Institute of Technology.
Adityo Prakash

Adityo is founder & CEO of Verseon, a drug
discovery company based in the Bay Area. He combines a
comprehensive background in business and technology, with a core
understanding of the interplay between emerging market needs and
fundamental technology solutions. Prior to Verseon, Adityo
co-founded Pulsent Corporation which brought breakthrough video
delivery technology to the marketplace. Adityo is also the inventor
on over 40 patents filed to date.
Dr. Sharon Stevenson

Sharon Stevenson is the Co-Founder and Managing
Director of Okapi Venture Capital and is responsible for Okapi
Ventures' life science investments. She is a scientifically and
financially trained senior executive specializing in innovative
strategic problem-solving across functional and industry boundaries.
Prior to founding Okapi, Ms. Stevenson was the Senior Vice President
of Technology and Planning for SkinMedica, was a principal with
Domain Associates, and the President & CFO of Volcano Therapeutics.
Sharon was a tenured Associate Professor in the Department of
Orthopedics at the Case Western Reserve University School of
Medicine. She is author of over 132 publications, 2 guest
editorships, and has made more than 57 presentations to professional
audiences. Her clinical training was in veterinary surgery and she
is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS).
Sharon has a MBA from the UCLA Anderson Graduate School of
Management; a PhD in Comparative Pathology from UC Davis; and a
Master of Science in Veterinary Pathology and Doctor of Veterinary
Medicine from The Ohio State University.
